The lesson is created for beginner adults who have never practiced ballet. You do not need a special ballet uniform, just wear a T-shirt, leggings and socks.


In the lesson we will try to do basic exercises at the barre and in the middle of the ballet studio.

I know that you are worried that you may not succeed, since you have never studied ballet, do not worry, the lesson will not be difficult, it will be fun. You will receive only positive emotions.

In addition to the main ballet lesson, there are additional exercises that ballet dancers do while lying on the floor to strengthen and stretch their body.

It's like a lesson at the barre, but you lie on the floor to feel your body better and not have to worry about your balance.

For clothes you will need socks, a T-shirt and leggings.
And also your own fitness mat.

Hi, my name is Volodymyr Tkachenko. I'm from Ukraine. Professional ballet dancer and teacher. Now I work in The Hague at the United Ukrainian Ballet.

My mission, to give accessible and useful ballet classes for adults.

Volodymyr Tkachenko (35) lost his dance school in Kharkiv. After a dark period, he wants to be happy with what he has now.
'First I moved to Berlin, where my best friend lived. It was very difficult for me. In Ukraine I danced as a soloist, and for the last five years I was the head of a dance school in Kharkov, which I founded myself. But in Berlin I didn't think about dancing, I was depressed. I did not see a future. I stayed in my room with the curtains closed and just lay on the bed. I barely ate!'
'One day a manager from the past called to ask if I wanted to come to the United Ukrainian Ballet. At first it meant nothing to me. But in the end I wanted to get out of the impasse, and move. It was difficult: I had to start in the corps de ballet, in the last row. But this company saved my life. I started moving again, working, talking. In the meantime I also teach.'
"I miss my city terribly. I miss every corner, every building. Every day I watch movies to see Kharkov. Nothing special, just someone walking around town or something. I know everything there, but I still don't know if I want to go back. I only think about today, I don't think about the future. In Kharkov, I was successful with the school, it grew rapidly, I had many plans for the future and ideas for growth. Today I realize that I have to live now, in the moment, and be happy with what I have here and now.

... Several of the dancers had arrived in The Hague with kids who played in the halls while their parents rehearsed. Matvei, then 7, the son of Volodymyr Tkachenko, who teaches company class a few times a week, seemed to be everywhere at once, including in rehearsals and onstage with the dancers.

Now Matvei and the other children are attending school in The Hague. "He goes to school, and then after school we play football, work on his homework, and spend time together," Tkachenko said. "I think he is happy."

Like the others, Tkachenko expressed gratitude that he and his son were safe, that they had been received warmly by the residents of The Hague, and that he was working. And like all of them, he worries about relatives and friends back home, including his parents, whose house was destroyed by a missile last year but who refuse to leave.

When asked what his hopes were, Tkachenko said, "I don't think about tomorrow. I think about today."

Increase self-esteem

A study by the University of California (USA) involved 24 ballet dancers aged 23 to 87 years old. The results showed that regular participation in these sessions improved their self-esteem and self-expression.

Physical and emotional expression

In fact, dancing is an unusual way to cope with everyday stress, reduce anxiety, and oxygenate the body with beneficial neurotransmitters like serotonin or endorphin.

Social interaction with other people.

One of the biggest problems of modern society is loneliness, the scale of which increases with age. Regularly attending dance classes has many social benefits. For example, it builds friendships, helps people overcome shyness, and enriches emotional bonds

Keeping your body young

Research from the University of Alberta (Canada) claims that ballet strengthens joints. This also keeps them flexible. Not to mention muscle, coordination and agility. As a result, at any age, few activities are more stimulating than learning to dance and enjoying the art of ballet.
